I love the holidays, but the chaos that comes with it can be overwhelming. At least we have a little break before Valentine's hits us.

I read an article that was a good reminder of the pitfalls of shopping online. A few of the main points were...

Watch out for so called "free" or low-cost trials or samples that may require high shipping fees
Be sure there is a posted privacy policy that guarantees the safety of your personal information
When buying, have a look for an "s" after the http: in the Web site address. That means its secure and your credit card info is protected. As in https://
Be sure to hang onto a copy of your order and confirmation number, in case you need later

Just being cautious is always a good idea.

Since this blog serves as a kind of journal, I thought I'd post some places to find freebies and freebie related offers online.

For me, the best deals are online. And I'd much rather shop online than deal with all the crowds of people anyway. Probably everything I want is available online. The one online purchase that I have to be careful about is clothes. Sometimes the color isn't what I expect or the fit isn't right. But I've also come to know certain brands like Rockport which I can order in my size and there's never a problem. Some shirts and pants are like that too.

I think more people are doing their shopping online each year. It's easier, not just to buy, but to compare, and its delivered too. Only about 20 or so of shopping left, and even less if you want delivery.

You also have the option of going directly to sites like dell.com for specific items, but the coupon sites like above usually have done the legwork for you and have the best coupon codes.
